Lori’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Social Work (University of Calgary) and a Masters of Science, Interdisciplinary Studies, Health Promotion (Boise State University). She has worked in the health promotion field since 1986. This was the year the World Health Organization completed the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion, the seminal document that has guided her work. Her career in Health Promotion began as a Coordinator for a multi-site hospital-based health information centre.

Lori has worked in management positions with Alberta regional health authorities leading teams of Health Promotion professionals and researchers in exploring ways to effectively plan, implement and evaluate programs. She spent time as a consultant working with several levels of government , non profit organizations and professional associations. In the recent past, Lori worked as a researcher with The City of Red Deer and is currently employed by Alberta Health Services (2010).

Lori is an adjunct assistant professor in the Centre for Health Promotion Studies, School of Public Health, University of Alberta. She has been formally associated with the Centre since 2005. She has taught HPS 510-Health Promotion with Communities, HPS 501-Social and Behavioural Foundations in Promoting Health, and has provided supervision for practicum students.
